We the Civil Society Organizations gathered here today wish to appreciate the President of the Republic of Uganda for taking into consideration the voices and concerns of the citizens to reject the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2016.
On the 14th April 2016, MPs passed the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to exempt them from paying taxes
on their allowances. The legislators overwhelmingly agreed to the exemptions within seconds after Speaker
Rebecca Kadaga put the question to the House. This development was just two months after a High Court ruling
that ordered MPs Allowances, among others be taxed.
